Online seminar addresses fiber-cabling migration to 40G and 100G

March 15, 2012
The Ethernet Alliance continues its educational campaign with a live online seminar Wednesday, March 21.

A webinar hosted by The Ethernet Alliance will discuss strategies for planning a fiber-optic cabling infrastructure that will support 40- and 100-Gbit Ethernet. Entitled "Ethernet 301: 40/100 GbE Fiber Cabling and Migration Practices," the online seminar will be held live at two separate times on Wednesday, March 21. The one-hour seminar will be delivered starting at 11:00am ET/8:00am PT, then again starting at 7:00pm ET/4:00pm PT on the 21st.

The webinar will be presented by Robert Reid, senior product development manager at Panduit and Frank Yang, who is a technical marketing manager with CommScope and also chairs the Ethernet Alliance Next Generation Enterprise Cabling Subcommittee. An announcement of the seminar provided by The Ethernet Alliance said it will cover the following topics.

  • Data center trends and their impact on cabling infrastructure
  • Fiber cabling migrations to 40/100 GbE
  • Link power budgets
  • Design considerations

Yang commented, "Anyone responsible for cabling management knows that being prepared for evolutionary changes and coming advancements is critical. The Ethernet 301 webinar will help people gain a better understanding of the scope of and fundamental impact that 40/100-GbE optical fiber cable will have on their operations. We're hosting this webinar to aid attendees in creating efficient and effective migration strategies for their cabling infrastructures."

Editor's Note: Previously, we wrote about an Ethernet Alliance seminar entitled "Ethernet 102: The Physical Layer of Ethernet," which took place on Tuesday, February 28 and was presented by Frank Yang along with The Ethernet Alliance's president, Scott Kipp. Unfortunately, by the time we got word of this seminar to many of you, the opportunity to register for it had passed. The Ethernet Alliance now has the presentation document that was delivered during the "Ethernet 102" webinar available for viewing on its website. You can find it here.
