Treat #3: App calculates loss budget

It’s no surprise that “free stuff” dominates the “Treats” section of our report. Rounding out the goodies is an app from The Fiber Optic Association called FOA LossCalc, whose name aptly describes its function. The app, available here on iTunes and usable on iPads, iPhones and iPods, is a time-saver because it estimates the optical loss of a fiber-optic link for a system designer based on media type (singlemode/multimode), length and number of connections and splices.
