Emerson now offering power support for DAS infrastructures

Dec. 12, 2012
Emerson Network Power now offers reliable power for DAS head-ends and remote units, with monitoring and maintenance available.

Emerson Network Power announced that now offers reliable power for distributed antenna systems (DAS) head-ends and remote units, with monitoring and maintenance available to ensure better coverage and higher bandwidth in venues such as stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and areas affected by terrain and zoning tower restrictions (common challenges faced by wireless and neutral host DAS providers, notes the company).

“Global DAS growth is expected to deliver revenue of $13.26 billion by 2015, as DAS operators increasingly demand high-quality, economical, dependable infrastructure solutions,” comments Jim Wiemer, director of product line management for Emerson Network Power’s Energy Systems business. “Emerson Network Power offers a wide variety of efficient and economical DAS power and enclosure solutions based on decades of industry knowledge in the macrocell market.”

Emerson now supports DAS networks with power systems and durable enclosure solutions to ensure that high network availability is attained. Available products include the following:

Head-ends: Emerson offers high-quality, medium to large NetSure DC Power Systems for a wide range of head-end applications with +24V and -48V DC power and battery backup requirements. +24VDC systems can be equipped with +24VDC to -48VDC converters for applications where both load types are present. DAS operating expenditure can be reduced through the use of the company's high-efficiency eSure rectifiers, geared to provide near 97 percent efficiency.

Remote Units: Remote DAS nodes may be powered by either DC or AC depending on the system. The small to medium NetSure DC Power Systems or Liebert AC uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) may be deployed in a variety of applications, from an environmentally controlled area housed inside a building to pole-mounted exterior applications in urban settings where environmental control and security are key.

Enclosure Options:
Depending on the environment, DAS and associated equipment may require protection from the elements and/or security. Emerson Network Power offers an extensive line of shelters and outdoor enclosures for head-end equipment that allows DAS equipment to withstand environmental extremes. Indoor racks and enclosures for remote units provide an enhanced level of system security and help maintain environmental integrity in vulnerable indoor environments.

Services: Engineering, installation, maintenance and monitoring services from Emerson Network Power ensure that equipment is installed properly and continues to operate at peak efficiency. Experienced design and field engineers are available to jointly develop customized power and transport solutions for any venue type, making certain that each project is managed and completed to meet industry standards.
