On Tuesday, July 22, Elon Musk posted two photos on X showcasing cabling inside the social media platform’s artificial intelligence (AI) data center known as Colossus 2, located in Memphis, TN. That same day news outlets reported the Colossus 2 facility was set to go online within weeks.
Musk referred to the images as “Cable pr0n,” presumably to avoid a penalty the post would have incurred from X’s content algorithms by using a derivative of the word “pornography.”
One photo is an in-cabinet shot of neatly dressed cables, including yellow cables easily identified as singlemode and a greater number of larger-diameter purple cables, which this author believes are direct-connect InfiniBand cables (but the author welcomes correction from those who actually know their stuff: [email protected]).
The other photo shows cables laid in wire-mesh-style cable trays. The image shows a couple trays occupied with cable while other trays remain vacant.
Kudos to the cabling pros at Colossus 2 who took such care to make the facility’s cabling a showpiece.
