Wirewerks’ Fiber+Power Solutions combine optical media, power conductors for wireless applications

April 29, 2021
The hybrid fiber/copper product set connects and powers remote distributed antenna system remote radio units, wireless access points, and other DTEs.

Wirewerks recently introduced the Fiber+Power Solutions product line, which is engineered to provide signal and power to remote devices over hybrid fiber/copper cabling.

Similar to Power over Ethernet twisted-pair copper systems, Wirewerks Fiber+Power Solutions delivers signal and power to remote devices over a single cable, the company said. But unlike PoE, Wirewerks’ hybrid fiber/copper solutions reach far beyond PoE’s 100-meter maximum channel length. They also provide a broader range of power options over longer distances, do not require PoE hubs or injectors, and offer the bandwidth, performance, and noise immunity of optical fiber communications.

“For in-building wireless [IBW] applications, Fiber+Power Solutions power and connect remote 5G DAS remote radio units [RRUs] or WiFi access points to their respective baseband units/remote hubs or WiFi routers over hybrid fiber/copper cables,” Wirewerks pointed out. “For building automation systems applications, hybrid Fiber+Power Solutions may connect and power a variety of remote data terminal equipment (DTE) including cameras, access control devices, and sensors.”

The solutions include hybrid fiber/copper high-density 1U/4U patch panels for premise point-of-presence/equipment-room environments, and a choice of two hybrid enclosures for receiving and terminating hybrid fiber/copper cables at the remote RRU/access point, or other remote DTE locations.

Edd Tabet, Wirewerks’ vice president of engineering, commented, “We developed our Fiber+Power Solutions in close collaboration with leading wireless and broadband providers, and deployment in their production networks is now saving installation time and material costs in their IBW/5G DAS rollouts.”

Wirewerks’ Fiber+Power products are available at Wirewerks Authorized Distributors throughout North America as well as the Caribbean and Latin America.
